Grace's first post

So, my mom has been posting far too often on this blog without consulting me or asking my permission to reveal all of my goings-on to the whole world via the Internet, so I have decided to take matters into my own hands and write a post of my own.

The big news in these here parts is that I was one month old on July 5th. My parents bought a cake to celebrate this occasion, as well as to acknowledge that they have not made any major screw ups in that time (little do they know...just wait until the psychiatrist's bill start showing up in 20 years).

(everyone thought it was cute that my sleeper matched the cake...I am still undecided)

My mom and dad have been really excited lately that I am getting pretty good at holding up my head and focusing my eyes on stuff. I don't know what all the fuss is about - frankly, they just never gave me a reason to look at stuff before and as for the head thing, well, life is a lot easier when other people look after that kind of thing for you. I am enjoying this nifty play mat thing that appeared one day.

The other thing that has folks all a twitter is that I now weigh almost 11 pounds (10 lbs, 12 oz to be exact). I weighed 7 lbs, 1 oz when I left the hospital on June 6th. My mom says that this is likely the one time in my life when people will be excited that I am gaining almost a pound a week. But she also says that at this rate I'll look like Jabba the Hutt soon (or Pizza the Hutt if you are a Space Balls fan). Yes, she is that mean.

My Minnie (my mom's mom) came to visit us for a week. I was not feeling so hot when she first arrived and was pretty gassy. My mom thought it may have been her diet, looked at what she was eating, and decided it was dairy. She cut it all out and I am feeling much better and a little diaper rash I had has all cleared up. Unfortunately this means mom cannot have whipped cream on her strawberry shortcake this summer or pizza with cheese for the foreseeable future, but she has resigned herself to the fact that this is for the greater good.

On Canada Day we went to check out Rideau Hall (where this chick lives). We took a tour of the residence which was good but I got a little bored so I made the grown ups leave.

(that's me in the pouch Dad is wearing)

(my sun bonnet is still a little big for me)

(my Nanna sent a Canada Day shirt for me to wear...Dad may not be happy I posted this picture since it was taken before he had his coffee)

I really liked having Minnie come and stay. She was good for my parents - lots of years of experience with babies in that lady. We got lots of great hang out time together. She got pretty excited when I gave her a big, huge smile. Then I puked. Now she thinks the smile was because I had gas but it really was because she's awesome.

(I can't remember what we were talking about when this was taken, but I'm sure it was something important)

(I posted this picture just for my dad - he likes it a lot. My Minnie is holding me in this one)

Finally, I went to my first wedding on July 2nd. My parents' friends got married. I got all dressed up for the party and my dad said it was the first time I didn't look like I was going to an Indigo Girls concert. Personally, I fancy myself more of an Ani DiFranco fan, but that's ok.

Later, gators.
