Today was a little bittersweet as we had our last visit with the midwives today, Grace and I are turned back over to our GP for our care.
The midwife was quite impressed with Grace's progress to date and has deemed her to be thriving. The baby put on quite a good show with lots of looking around, moving, making lots of sounds, etc.
Her measurements at discharge were:
Weight
Birth - 3470 grams (7 lbs 6 oz)
6 weeks - 5400 grams (11 lbs 9 oz)
Length
Birth - 48 cm
6 weeks - 59 cm
Head circumfrence
Birth - 32.5 cm
6 weeks - 38 cm
This growth does exceed the normal rate for a newborn. In fact, we have her in clothing sized for a 6-month old (although baby clothing sizes mean little in most cases and there is quite a large variance between manufacturers and styles). For me this has meant that I have been nursing constantly (or it only seems that way) and I had little time with a teeny-tiny baby in arms. She is getting heavy quite quickly.
Looking forward to having a 6-month old the size of your average 2-year old :)
